INTERNATIONAL PROJECTION
As may be proved by history, FATLyF performed a pioneering role regarding
the promotion of brotherly conversations and warm unity among the electricity
unions worldwide. In April 1970, on our Federation initiative, 19 electricity
organizations from the Continent met in Buenos Aires in order to create the Central
Interamericana de Trabajadores de Luz y Fuerza (CITLyF) [Electricity Workers
Inter-American Station]. After the compulsory interval imposed by military
dictatorships which devastated Latin America, FATLyF kept working in the
Electricity Department of IPCTT (Internacional del Personal de Correos,
Telégrafos y Teléfonos) [International Union of Post office, Telegraph
and Telephone Staff], which would later be called IC (Internacional de
Comunicaciones) [Communications International Union]. Finally, on January 1,
2000, the IC, FIET, MEI and FGI joined together to make up the UNION NETWORK
INTERNATIONAL (UNI). The UNI brings together a thousand labor unions from
150 different countries and constitutes a valid tool to face the new challenges
of globalized capitalism. FATLyF General Secretary, Julio César Ieraci, has
taken on the responsibility of chairing the UNI Global Electricity Sector,
with the aim of protecting social and labor rights currently threatened by
the increasing power of large multinational consortia. On the other hand, it
is also worth mentioning that in July 1996, a Continental Plenary which took
place in Buenos Aires decided the creation of Co.S.E.A.(Coordinadora del
Sector Eléctrico Americano) [Coordinating Committee of the American
Electricity Sector]. Since then, Co.S.E.A.has an office at FATLyF facilities.
